Made for another world

"If I discover within myself a desire which no experience in the world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that I was made for another world." C. S. Lewis

Home's ache

Dear friends have recently introduced me to the little world of Lakeside Ohio, a quaint lake Erie Chautauqua founded in 1873. Have you ever had the strange feeling of having gone somewhere new and felt like you've come home? That's how I feel about Lakeside. Once again the old ache has returned, the heavenly longing, stirred again. Outside it's gates life is what we know it to be, but inside is beauty, rest. Idealistic of course but the charming streets and relaxing pace evoke strong emotions. Yesterday I visited for a dose of tranquility.

Each window a glimpse to gracious living, community, joy. A sit a while proposition.
Does time stand still, or is the invitation to slow down powerful enough that I've willed myself to move in slow motion, savoring the moments.
The day gloams golden, each window and doorway an invitation to see past the now. Heart responding to eternal ring beckoning me home, I slow even more to wring each drop of sweetness from the day.
If I could just push through the lustrous door to the other side, not today; to my sweet sorrow, not today. But oh the taste of coming goodness follows me soft through the night.
The day pulls down the shade, closing out the night, liquid light sinking away. Exquisite beauty that hurts.
Like my little Maggie, I look through the bars longing, watching as long as I can. Perfection out of reach, promise mine, but not today.

What makes your heart restless? When do you feel ill at ease in this world longing for the next?

  1. Oh my, what a quaint little town! I would love to go there.

You know, there have been times when I prayed that the Lord would return so that I could go home. I hate to admit this, but it's usually when things get really tough here. But I love life, love living, love my home (though temporary). However, I know someday Jesus will return or call me to my Heavenly home. That will be a glorious time.

    Blessings,
    Joan

  2. Every time I watch the news. It really makes my heart restless to see and hear what is going on in the world today.

    That little town is adorable.

  3. Joan, I love life too and I'm thankful for the gift of it. Even at it's sweetest times it amazes me to think that Jesus presence will overshadow it all!

Teri, I so understand, I rarely watch the news for that reason anymore.
